Comment below if you have any questions or wondering how to style your balloon garland, we’re here to help!
What You'll Need
For this garland you’ll need -
- Latex balloons! We used silver, black, and white balloons. All together we used about 36- 40 balloons, you want to have a few extra on hand in case there are any gaps. You can just add those on with glue dots. Feel free to change up the colors!
- Electric or hand balloon pump.
- Party ribbon or fishing line.
- Gold foil backdrop garland.
- A balloon tying tool.
- 3M hooks and strips.
- Glue dots.
- Scissors.
- Optional: Silver foil curtain.
Starting with our silver star mylar balloons, these come in other colors as well but we're sticking to our color scheme of silver, black, gold and white. Once inflated, this is going to measure 23 x 23 inches and we're inflating it with a hand pump. If you're having trouble inflating it, make sure that the pathway is clear with maybe a chopstick, it goes from not inflated to full pretty quickly. You don’t have to tie these off, they will self seal if you just press the edge.
Our second type of balloon is a round vinyl, these are pretty heavy duty. To start off, just like our clear balloons you want to give these a nice stretch to get that round shape. Take your time with this step, starting from the middle stretch it horizontally and then vertically. For this balloon type, we’re using an electric balloon pump. You can use a hand pump as well. This one also comes in a variety of sizes so if you’re wanting to create a cascading garland, it goes up to 32” inches. A lot of fun to play with!
Using an electric balloon pump, inflate latex balloons and use the tie tool to tie them off. Remember to let some air out to get that round shape. Continue to inflate the balloons, varying the sizes from 5” to 12”. Once the balloons are inflated, tye them off in clusters of 2. You can also skip this step by just tying them once they are off the air pump but this step gives you more control, especially if you’re not sure which colors and sizes you want to use together.
So with these clusters of 2, cross them over each other and twist the back over to secure. Remember to include that big round vinyl ballon in one of the clusters.
To put all the balloons together, you'll need a balloon ribbon or fishing line. Leave a little bit of balloon ribbon so you can tie it to the wall. Loop the balloon ribbon over one of these clusters once and then a second time in a kind of infinity figure 8 loop. Once you feel that it’s secure add the second cluster, and so on. A little tip here, make sure to pull the clusters as close together as possible, this will help you avoid any gaps and make the whole garland much more stable. Keep adding balloon clusters to create the garland!
Adding Garland to the Wall
To add our backdrop to the wall, we have 3M hooks and strips. We're also pairing the balloons with a backdrop garland backdrop is 6 feet by 6 feet and a silver foil curtain on one side. These are very lightweight but we do want to add a few hooks to help with the weight of the balloon garland. Putting the balloons on, keep it pretty loose here because you’re going to want to move those balloons around to get the shape that you want, and if you have any gaps you can add small balloons with glue dots.
Filling in Gaps
To fill in gaps, use glue dots to connect balloons to each other. You also may want to add glue dots throughout the garland to close up any gaps between balloons that are on the strip.
We hope this helped you plan your perfect balloon garland! Let us know how you'll be styling these balloons in the comments. Tag us @BalsaCircle or #BalsaCircle if you make one of these for your home or special event, we'd love to see your beautiful arrangements!
